Three young designers are generating buzz with their unique perspectives on women’s footwear.

Background: Kerrigan, a self-taught designer, recalls scouring shops as a teenager in Illinois to find prom shoes that would fit her size -11 feet. After years of coming face to face with one too many “shapeless, taupe ballet flats and square toe pumps that not even your mother would touch,” Kerrigan said, she launched her own line.
Motivation to start your own line: “I want women, no matter what their age or shoe size, to feel confident, and a great pair of shoes can make all the difference. I decided that if the shoe doesn’t fit, I (should) make my own.”
Design Philosophy: “To balance fresh ideas with classic, elegant style elements, including strong texture properties such as buttery-soft suedes and rich leathers, to create a sophisticated, confident look.”
Inspiration: “My grandmother’s couture closet. (It) was full of classic colors, shapes and styles. Each piece lasted beyond one season, and that’s why it’s important that I use the highest-quality materials. Investing a little more money up front will allow you to enjoy quality pieces that last for years if cared for in the proper manner.”

The Kathryn Kerrigan woman: “Stylish, confident women, with a shoe size above a European 41 who appreciate European craftsmanship and feminine, classic style.”
Favorite Designers: “I admire Betsey Johnson for her commitment to whimsical, punchy colors mixed with hippie florals and unique textures that create a style like no other.”
Styles or designers you wear: “Chicago winters find me in Frye boots. They wear very well and are incredibly durable.”
