Chicago Fashion: Stylishly Standing Tall
Women with larger than average shoe sizes never had it easy when it came to finding fashionable footwear. That is until Kathryn Kerrigan grabbed a foothold on this niche market. Standing tall at six feet with size 11 feet, the former college basketball player became increasingly frustrated at the lack of feminine shoes available on the retail market.
“My college hoopster basketball friends and I could never find cute shoes in our sizes,” Kerrigan says. “As we became professionals and mothers, we realized men's flip flops just did not work anymore.” Answering the footwear prayers of oversized tootsies everywhere, the Kathryn Kerrigan collection offers a selection of cool sandals, adorable flats, vintage-inspired pumps and stylish leather boots that travel well beyond the basketball court.
Made in Italy, ballet flats like the Grace, Starlynn and Gwen are the line’s best sellers. Elegant yet trendy, these flats are stitched by hand with fine silks, fabrics and leathers and offer a moderate arch, durable sole, elastic back and leather insoles.
But you don’t have to be a size 11 to play ball. An interesting footnote – boutiques across the country carry Kathryn Kerrigan shoes in more mainstream sizes, from 6 to 10, while the on-line shop caters to larger sizes, from 11 to 14.
